I had the privlege of hearing two men speak about Stop Child Trafficking now last night.
A new friend of mine organized a walk last year to raise money for this organization.
SCT is the only one of it's kind- working to stop child sexual exploitation by prevention. They have undercover operations to collect information in order to put sexual predators behind bars. SCT is working to protect our children. Check out their website and consider joining (or organizing) a walk in October to raise funds for this important mission!

social justice: mandate to love

There is a project combating the recruitment and enslavement of child soldiers around the world. It's called Project AK-47. I read this on their site today...very powerful:

"WE SAY…(N): Social justice is our right: to live in society as free and secure individuals. (V): Social justice is our obligation: to do everything we can to benefit those who do not enjoy freedom and security. WE SEE...Social Justice, not as a political right, but as an individual mandate to love."

Human Trafficking Conference

The second annual Interdisciplinary Conference on Human Trafficking will be held at the University of Lincoln Nebraska this September. They are seeking academic research papers to present and discuss at the conference. E. Benjamin Skinner, expert and author of A Crime so Monstrous: Face to Face with Modern-day Slavery, will be the keynote speaker. I am considering submitting my research proposal: Hope and Light: A View through the Lens of Human Trafficking Victims. My aim is to uncover some truths about human trafficking by giving cameras to rescued victims and letting them tell the story through photography. The common name for this type of research is photovoice. It's a really cool concept and at this point, it is just a proposal, but I would love to be able to put it into practice some day-maybe this is my chance!
